The following image (Image 1) was appropriated from a BBC News Online article featuring the growing tensions between North Korea and the United States. The reason the posting initially caught my attention was due to the graphic and shocking nature of it. Multiple missiles heading in the direction of the United States. There are two main parts to this image which juxtapose in a dramatic visual and metaphorical way. The missiles, and the small White House in the bottom corner. I also like how you don’t have to understand Korean to know this is a North Korean Propaganda poster which really shows the era we are currently a part of.
Looking now at the second image (Image 2.). This was someone else’s appropriation. The reason this image initially stood out to me was because it is an appropriation of an appropriation. Firstly, it manages to capture two completely different generations in one image. It does this by means of merging the two together and this was achieved by holding the phone at the right angle in proportion to the rest of the face and also taking the picture at right right angle.
